Beauty Insider: Old School Beauty Tricks That Still Work

Everyday beauty companies come up with different products (making huge money from us) that have been derived from a need in our beauty routine. Take for example, pencil eye liners; they usually get dry and when applied on the eye, you don’t really get the full impact. So the smart people at the beauty companies took this opportunity and came up with cream pencils, we have plenty of those around now. The truth is we still like the texture of the normal eye pencils that are not cream based, so we still buy them. I’m not saying our beauty companies are not doing a fantastic job, I’m just here to emphasize the point that when these new products weren’t available, the Audrey Hepburns of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s used simple beauty tricks to get their game on………lol. Lets get our moove (makeup + groove…..) back with these simple tips I’m about to share. There are so many old beauty tricks to share now and maybe if I’m nice, i’ll will let you in on others…..lol …

Trend Alert : Ombre Hair.

Hey Lovelies, Its another Thursday, and as promised I have another hot trend ruling the beauty scene. Yes, its Ombre hair. I’m sure a lot of people don’t know this, but Ombre is actually a french word gotten from the verb Ombrer, to shade (please bear with me, I’m a french language graduate).  Ombre hair refers to hair fading from dark to light or from light to dark, so instead of one color from the roots to the tip, we have a sort of gradation of color from dark to light or from dark to light from the roots to the tip.

What is beauty…Who is she anyway? – A Modern View on an Age Old Debate

In my own opinion, beauty is a reflection of your inner self.  However, being beautiful on the inside and neglecting your exterior is not a total definition of the word beauty. Just as you groom and value the inside, the exterior needs to be taken care of as well. According to Nancy Etcoff “Beauty draws us in. We can’t stop looking or listening or touching. It takes us outside ourselves and it motivates us. It’s essential to life and to happiness.”

Reflection: Why wear makeup?

By Raspberry_Blush In the last few days I was busy promoting our makeup studio, REN Ladies Center, in an annual event dedicated to everything bridal; Harusi Trade Fair (Tanzania’s First & Premiere Wedding Fair). What struck me during the fair was that most of the women who visited our stall said that they didn’t like wearing makeup- for a makeup artist such a statement was a challenge that needed to be addressed immediately. So for every person who said that they didn’t like makeup, we offered a free demo; then we heard statements like, I didn’t know I could look this pretty with makeup on, I didn’t know I could use eyeliner like this and many more. The general understanding in regards to makeup was: vibrant eyeshadow, dramatic lashes and colored lips; some compared it to looking like a peacock or drag queen :-O I’m not surprised since poorly applied makeup is all over town, on local television and even in weddings. It is without doubt that we are the epitome of perfection and keeping …

We’re always getting emails and responding to people individually and we get quite alot of the same concerns and queries so we figured that hey, if one person’s asking perhaps there were alot of others out there that could benefit from the same answer but were just too shy to ask or didn’t know where to look for help.  So we’re here to do just that.

Spa Pedicures – Are they really worth it?

Have you ever wondered what the difference is between a Spa Pedicure or a normal Pedicure? I’ll tell you what, it’s a lot more than just  a professional toenail job. A Spa Pedicure is a procedure which cleans and removes the dead skin cells from the feet and toenails. It helps prevent nail diseases. The pedicure is also accompanied by a foot massage that rejuvenates the skin as well as relaxing the muscles. But what really sets it apart is the fact that it’ll be a longer service, with more steps — an aromatic exfoliating scrub, hydrating mask, hot towel wrap, jelly pedicures and paraffin dips are also on the menu at alot of places and this are the things that’ll make the spa pedicure last longer and feel more luxurious. If you’re more adventurous, you can invest in a fish pedicures (where you dip your feet into a tank full of tiny fish which nibble away at the hard skin on your feet!  But in general, they will help to remove excess dead hard …
