There’s nothing more exciting than a good old fashioned Red Carpet Event, Hollywood Style. The eyes of the world are focused on who’s wearing what and who came together. But our eyes are focused solely on how they did what and in which colour! Lol The BET Awards help place yesterday and there were definately alot of hits (and misses). Some beauty traps such as the scorching sun made quite a few of our regular favourites struggle to maintain their glow and melted faces unforgiving!
White was a big trend on the red carpet this year, and while we don’t really focus on fashion and what they wore, you have to take your outfit into consideration when planning your entire look. If you’re entire ensemble is monotone then you’re going to need a little something extra to make sure you don’t look drained. White is such a fresh clean colour, you’ve got to make sure you’re makeup is on point!
Blonde hair was another big trend. However, again, depending on your skin tone, you can end up looking washed out rather than glam. Minimal makeup which may look great when you’re rocking a dark shade could end of disappearing with lighter tones.
Loose buns, waves and braids were a hit on the Red Carpet, with alot of stars opting to go for casual chic. But it’s harder to pull of than you think. There’s a thin line between looking effortlessly beautiful and just looking like you didn’t put in any effort at all! Check out the pictures below and let us know which looks you Loved and which .. well.. Loathed is such a harsh word! Lol
Our Favourite Looks
Pia Mia Perez looked stunning in all white. She gave us a modern twist on a vintage doll look with her hair scarf and dark lips. Her eyes weren’t too heavy and her eyes sparked. Everything was just perfect.
Kerry Washington is a Hot Mama! She looks gorgeous after having her baby only two months ago in her floral Dolce & Gabbana dress. Her skin is flawless. She let the outfit do all the talking. She left her hair out in soft curls which left her whole look totally feminine and shows that sometimes less really is more! If she’d pulled her hair back she would have needed more makeup to pull it off so she made the right call on all points here.
Jennia Fredrique’s look was totally old hollywood glamour. Her skin work wasn’t too heavy, her eyes popped out with the help of some understated lashes and soft tones of gold shadow on the lid and under the water line. Her playful Berry Lips worked perfectly with her side swept hair. She looks like she stepped straight out of a 1920s pin up shoot.
We would have been really surprised if Jeannie Mai got anything wrong with her Red Carpet Look. Lashes, Lips & Brows. What more does a girl need? While Jennia opted for a lighter shade of Berry Lips and Gold toned eyeshadow, Jeannie Mai went with more of a white/silver shade on her eye which really helped to bring out the shape and a darker tone of lipstick. Perfect!
Keke Palmer really wanted to showcase here edginess. The dress is a coversation piece therefore the most sensible thing to do would be to keep the hair and makeup super simple.
Karrueche Tran looks lovely with her tendril curls and glowing skin. Love the overall look.
Jennifer Freeman looked like a Golden Goddess. Thumbs up all around!
Gabrielle Union.. Oh how we love thee! Seriously. It’s not easy to look this beautiful this effortlessly. Her “no makeup” look and semi beehive 1960s throwback hair just works. She looks fresh, her makeup isn’t melting because that smile is all she needs to carry her through the event!
Bria and Shane Murphey sizzled with their smokey eyes. It’s ok if they looked hot, because THEY ARE HOT! Even though you can see that their skin’s have “warmed up” due to the blazing heat, they still look beautiful. Their makeup and hair works just as well during the day as it would if it was a night time event. Even though their eyes were heavily made up, they left their skins clean. It would have been a real hot mess if they’d tried to add any colour into this look. Dark hair, nude toned outfits. They worked it well! Double Thumbs Up!
Amanza Smith Brown. What can we say. We love her casual sophisticated bob. The Ombre tone of dark roots into golden bronze ends looks beautiful on her and lifts up her skintone to a point that she dosen’t need to do much else. Again, less is truly more and she let her outfit be the main focal point of her look.
Adrienne Bailon knows how to turn heads! Her figure hugging dress and slicked back hair screamed for a bright shade on her lips and she certainly delivered. Rather than going for a predictable Red, she opted for a beautiful orange tone similar to MAC Moronge or OCC Lip Tar in Beta. Even from afar it stands out and looks great against her white dress. Her brows seem a little too short for her face, especially since her hair’s been pulled back, they could have been a touch darker. But those lashes make up for it!
Both Tinashe and Zendaya chose Urban Chic. Considering it was a BET Awards anything goes really! But just because they dressed down, dosen’t mean they didn’t turn up their makeup! Lips, Lashes, Brows.. say it with me again.. Lips, Lashes, Brows! Simple, yet beautiful. Their skin looks amazing and they’d probably look just as fresh leaving as they did when they arrived. Kudos to the makeup artists cause they did a great job. We’re also loving their hair. Soft and very girlie. Too cute!
Sorry we couldn’t resist showing you Zendaya’s Pre BET Dinner Look from the night before. Going to show that she’s totally in control of her hair and makeup choices. She can go from Glam to Casual in the blink of an eye and still look drop dead gorgeous. Our girl Tiwa Savage looked beautiful on the Red Carpet and she held her own against all the other stars. Guess she’s used to the heat. Not a sweat bead in sight! We especially love her fishtail braid. Gorgeous! Ok we know this wasn’t a Red Carpet look but Nikki looked fabulous on stage during her performance. We loved her for her daring and outrageous colours but she rocks the natural nude like a Diva and that hair.. There are some mermaids out there enviously looking at these photos! We also loved Iggy Azalea’s pompadour faux-hawk and side braid Now for the look’s that missed the mark. We’ve put a little slide show together for you. Some of them are on the list just simply because the makeup was too heavy, or not enough or that their skin just looked down right terrible! Enjoy!
