Events: Black-Up Launches New Store & Hosts Celebrity Make-up Artist Bimpe Onakoya

We love the fact that the Nigerian Beauty Industry is expanding every day. With more and more local and international brands realizing the potential of our market, the retail sector is booming.

So it comes as no surprise that black|Up have opened up their first ever International stand alone store in Lagos.

As part of its Launch activities, the newly-opened black|Up boutique will be hosting Celebrity Makeup Artist, Bimpe Onakoya from Friday July 27th to Sunday July 29th from 10am to 7pm, Bimpe will be on hand along with the black|Up team to offer great beauty advise and tips,  and to create new looks. black|Up will also be offering complimentary flash makeovers as well as great gifts with purchase.

If you don’t know who Bimpe Onakoya is then you’re missing out on one of the biggest and most talented names in the Nigerian Make-up Industry.  She’s a dear friend of Sacred and we’re huge fans of her work.  So we had to take ourselves on down there today to have a quick snoop around, play with some products and get all blacked|Up  😀

Firstly we have to give Kudos where it’s due.  The store is beautiful. It’s been well thought out, plann and executed. The design and fittings are world class, which means.. You could literally be anywhere in the world.   The staff are well trained, professional and very friendly. (You can find our sweetheart Juliette Okoli there on Wednesdays and Fridays).  So all in all, on first impressions, we were very impressed.

Secondly.. my first encounter with the brand was in London many moons ago. I remember thinking.. “what a horrible name”.. and to be honest, I didn’t give them much of a second thought. I’d heard that they were from France so I forgave them for the name after thinking that it was perhaps due to a difference in lingual expression. But now.. years later.. I have to eat my hat. I LOVE the brand and I also really quite fancy the name too.  I now say it in a positive way.. Up with the Blacks! heheh

Thirdly.. the products are really good. And that’s all that really matters. The quality is top class and would sit just as well in any professional make-up artist’s box as well as any of my friends, family or clients.  Sometimes some brands are either suitable only for pro work (stage, tv and print) while others are more consumer based and try to pass themselves off as professional quality.  But over the years, i’ve come to respect the products and the effort that has gone into developing them.

We took a few pics of the new store, it’s lovely staff and the goodies which lie in wait behind those doors. So go ahead.. be tempted and pay them a visit this weekend to enjoy the very best in professional service and advice. (oh and they’re offering free gifts with purchase!)
