I woke up this morning and thanks to the mirror in front of my bed (yes I’m vain like that :p) I looked at my face…..and I let out a huge smile.
okay okay, I’mnot smiling out of admiration or sheer vanity, I’m smiling because my acne scars are gradually fading and the new acne or pimples trying to start a war were literally gone.
I never suffered from acne as a teenager till I had my first warm oil facial in beauty school. I have combination skin and everyone that knows me knows I hate oil on my face. My mum once told me “apply olive oil on your face child…..its amazing” and I rolled my eyes the whole day…(random story)…..anyway back to my warm oil facial and the marks it left on my face….
I have to admit, I enjoyed the treatment but a few days later I began to notice I was breaking out on one side of my face, Half of my face (the right side, which happens to be my good side…sob) was covered in acne. Being a beauty therapist everyone expected me to know what to do but nothing worked. I tried everything, some showed promise but nothing was able to clear the acne.
Eventually I just gave up and left it to God. Then I discovered apple cider vinegar.
Apple cider vinegar is one of those natural home remedies for acne that has gained popularity over the years. Apple cider vinegar is an excellent detox agent. This type of vinegar is rich in alpha-hydroxy acids, which help dissolve fat deposits on your skin. As we all know, acne is caused by excess oil (a.k.a. fat) production on the skin. Thus, it is actually logical to say that apple cider vinegar can really cure acne; not just its symptoms, it can actually cure acne.
I started using this as part of my skincare regime, I diluted one partapple cider vinegar to 5 parts water (though its recommended that you dilute one part to eight parts water) intially and when the acne started disappearing I started diluting one part ACV to Eight parts water( 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar to 8 tablespoons water)
I use this till this day as a toner especially at night because the apple cider vinegar has an awful smell. It has really helped me not only clear the acne but the scars as well.
Another natural ingridient i added to my skincare regime is Egg whites, yes Egg whites…..not the whole egg just the whites without the yolk.
Egg whites are considered to be good for the skin. They help in healing the skin and they also remove excessive oil. Applying egg whites 3 times a week can bring noticeable results in acne reduction. I use an egg white mask on my face 2-3 times a week and I have seen noticable results. I have included an easy guide to making your own mask:
- Wash your face and pat your face dry.
- Crack a portion of the egg. Let only egg whites spill out of the egg into the bowl.
- Mix the egg white in the bowl until it forms a foam.
- Apply this mask over your face using your fingers or a Q-tip.
- Leave the mask for 15 minutes, until it is dry.
- Wash the face, pat it dry or let it air dry.
- Apply a moisturizer to your face.
You can also add some raw natural honey to the egg white mask or use the honey alone as a mask. I have to stress here that honey DOES NOT cure acne, however, it can help slowly fade acne scars away. I admit, the healing process is really long and it might take a few days and even weeks before you start seeing initial results, but the wait will be worth it trust me. Ensure you use natural honey because the processed ones are usually striped of their natural qualities.
So far I have seen improvements and I am still on my way to pre-warm oil facial skin but so far soooooo good. I will keep you updated on my journey. I also want to stress that the facial did not cause my acne. My skin can be sensitive sometimes so please dont blame it on the OIL.
Apple cider vinegar can be found at your local supermarkets and pharmacies.
Have a fab week sacred gods and goddesses….. Be natural. xoxo
